Supporting Pawtucket and Karma by Jennifer Boyle Hebda

The Supporting Pawtucket mural (42' x 10') is intended to inspire anyone coming and going from this historic site to “Support, Honor, Respect and Inspire” the community in which we live, teach, work and invest. The location is the future home of Shri Yoga Studio, which currently serves more than 8,500 residents every year with yoga outreach and wellness programs. After the fires and during COVID-19, this project was imperative to bring some artistic light to a neighborhood in need of great revitalization work, and this mural will support the future construction of the site setting a positive tone for the neighborhood with a call to engage within it.

The mural was publicly unveiled during opening night ceremonies of the 2020 Pawtucket Arts Festival celebrating many of the values the Festival stands for including civic engagement and skillful action.

The Karma mural represents intentional actions. Our actions come back to us in the future, helping us to learn from the past and creating a better future. This mural on Conant Street is meant to inspire the community by filling this once blighted space with light, energy and color. Anyone coming and going from this historic site will see the five impactful scenes depicting Growth, Building, Community, Service and Expansion within the community in which we live, teach, work and invest.

After the 2020 mill fires and during COVID-19, this project was imperative to bring some artistic light to a neighborhood in need of great revitalization. This mural also supports Shri, a yoga outreach and wellness non-profit moving to the site in late 2022, setting a positive tone for the neighborhood with a call to engage within it. The mural was created in conjunction with the 2021 Pawtucket Public Art Festival.
