Based in Middleboro, MA, Lorenson attended the University of Northern Iowa and earned his MFA in Sculpture from the Northern Illinois University. He then went on to teach at Layola University at Chicago and has been teaching sculpture at Bridgewater State College, Bridgwater, MA. since 1999. He has more than 300 sculptures in private and public collections with three in Rhode Island public collections.

Constructed of steel and aluminum, Lorenson's sculptures exibit dynamic forms that at the same time appear lightweight.
